Facebook currently offers an option to set up a legacy account contact after a user passes away. This contact will receive access to the account and can choose what happens after a person’s death. They are able to download all of the content and turn it into a memorial account or delete the account entirely.
It’s better than nothing, as other social media platforms currently don’t offer much when a user passes away. While Facebook at least offers limited options for memorialization, maybe it’s time we start thinking about a better way to memorialize a person (and what happens to their online data) after they die.
