Hi, I’m Jenny Goldade. I’m the senior content specialist here at Frazer. And today, I want to talk to you about how to plan an educational seminar for your funeral home.

In the past, we’ve talked about how wonderful we think it is to host holiday remembrance programs to reconnect with client families and remind them how important their loved one was. But remembrance events aren’t the only type of events that your funeral home can host.

Educational seminars can be great for raising brand awareness, connecting with local families, and establishing yourself as a thought leader in your community. That’s why I want to give you a brief overview of what steps you need to take to run a successful educational seminar for your funeral home.

First, decide what your seminar will be about. Some examples include preplanning, coping with grief, pet funerals, sudden loss, or anything else you think will resonate with members of your community.

Second, delegate responsibilities to your funeral home’s staff. You should consider individually assigning an event manager, speaker coordinator, schedule planner, marketer, treasurer, and photographer. This way, no one has too much planning to do in addition to their daily work. But a lot of these tasks can be assigned to one person if needed.

Third, pick your date, time, and location. Ideally, you would hold it at your funeral home’s facility to showcase it, but if there isn’t enough space for all your expected guests, you should consider a larger venue.

Fourth, decide on a speaker. This could be a member of your funeral home’s staff or an expert in your community.

Fifth, plan the content of your seminar. Determine how long it will be and create a timeline from welcoming your guests to the closing message.

Sixth, invite your guests. You should reach out to all members of your community if possible.

Seventh, promote your seminar. By promoting your seminar on social media and local media outlets, you can expand your guest list even further.

Eighth, have a great event! Enjoy the event with your staff and community members.

Ninth, send thank-you notes! Everyone loves a thank-you note, so be sure to send them to everyone who attended your event or helped coordinate it.
