Though it’s good to share things such as obituaries and thoughtful quotes on your funeral home’s social media, you don’t want to only share things associated with death. It’s important to use social media to establish your brand and show some personality.

Families want to work with funeral homes that aren’t all business and have staff they can connect with. By sharing more lighthearted and fun things on your social media accounts, you’re showing families you’re human too.

Below are some ideas of more uplifting and lighthearted content you can start sharing on your social media accounts.

Highlight Your Events

If you’re hosting an event, promote it on social media. A good way to do this is by creating a Facebook Event or by boosting your post. In your post, include photos from last year’s event to give families a good idea of what they can expect this time. After your event, share any quality photos you got and thank everyone who showed up.

Likewise, post about any local events your staff attended. For instance, if your funeral directors attended the local fair, share a photo of them enjoying some cotton candy. This shows families that your staff are a true part of the community.

Post about Fun Holidays

Of course, you should post about all the big holidays like Thanksgiving or Memorial Day but have a little fun by celebrating some of the sillier holidays out there. For example, for Pi Day (March 14th) encourage staff to bring in their favorite pies. Then share some photos of everyone enjoying their treats. Or on National Dog Day (August 26th), share the cutest pictures you have of your grief therapy dog.

Showcase Fun Office Gatherings

Families like working with collaborative teams because they know things will go as smoothly as possible. That’s why it’s a good idea to show how close your team is. One way to do this is by sharing pictures of all the fun things you all do together.

For instance, if you hold a holiday party, share a group photo of your staff and some pictures of your decorations. Or, if you have a Halloween costume contest, share some photos of the winner.

Celebrate Birthdays and Anniversaries

Give the birthday person a shoutout on social media. You could do something cute like them blowing out a candle on a cupcake. Or, even share some fun facts about them.

Celebrate work anniversaries too! For our employees’ work anniversaries, we’ve posted a Boomerang video of them popping confetti on Instagram.

Share Before & After Pictures

If your funeral home was recently remodeled, share some before and after pictures. Families will love seeing your new furniture, remodeling, or landscape updates.

Write Seasonal Posts

Is it the first snowfall? Or, maybe it’s just an especially beautiful autumn day. Either way, use these kinds of days as a way to connect with families. Because we know talking about the weather is always a go-to icebreaker!

Inform about Any Updates

Whenever funeral homes get a grief therapy dog, they should definitely post about it. Well, really any time can be a good time to post about your adorable pup!

Likewise, share any additional updates such as a new employee, new services offered, or any promotions.

Feature Staff Favorites

For National Library Week, we shared some of our staff’s favorite books. Your funeral home should do the same! You can also share your staff’s favorite tribute songs, movies for grief, or healing quotes.
