Tech-savvy Millennials are major influencers in today’s changing world.
Rather than focusing on continuing traditions like older generations, Millennials care more about being happy. And with the rise of Millennials in the workforce and marketplace, it’s important to consider the Millennial impact on the funeral industry.
Personalized Funerals
Millennials are changing the idea of funerals as we know them. They want unique, personalized funeral services for their loved ones.
Creating customized decorations, such as a photo wreath with flowers, can add a more personal, lasting impact. Now, caskets are even being decorated in the deceased’s favorite colors or shaped like a car or fish to incorporate their hobbies and interests.
Technology Use
Millennials are knowledgeable about technology and social media. They expect to be able to find the information they need online. If they want to know prices or other information about a funeral home, they will search for a website or social media page.
Cremation vs. Burial
Cremation is becoming a more popular option than burials. It’s more environmentally-friendly and allows people to create more creative and personalized memorials. Millennials also are not as religious as older generations, so they are more open to cremation. It allows them to break out of the traditional confines of funerals.
Millennial Funeral Directors
Millennials are entering the funeral industry and becoming funeral directors as well. Caitlin Doughty is a 30-year-old funeral director who believes that funeral industry trends are becoming more green. More people are using cremation, and she believes people should witness it and become more involved in the process.
