More and more people are choosing cremation — celebrities included.

They’re capitalizing on the fact that cremation allows for greater levels of personalization. Some are choosing to be scattered in their favorite places — including space. But others are using cremation as a final act to capture their larger-than-life personalities and to cement their legacy.

Here are some of the iconic urns used to celebrate the lives of these celebrities.

1. Carrie Fisher

Carrie Fisher is the most recent celebrity on our list who wanted her urn to be more than just something displayed on the family mantle. Her ashes were placed in a giant Prozac pill urn.

Fisher was a mental health advocate and never shied from openly discussing her own battles with depression and bipolar disorder — and many view her as a hero for helping remove the stigma of mental illness. Her brother told Entertainment Tonight that they chose the Prozac pill because “Carrie’s favorite possession was a giant Prozac pill that she bought many years ago. A big pill. She loved it, and it was in her house, and [daughter] Billie and I felt it was where she’d want to be.”

2. Prince

Prince was an eccentric musical icon in life — and in death, he would be no different. His ashes were placed in an urn that’s an exact replica of the late singer’s Paisley Park mansion and the urn is adorned with the musician’s iconic purple symbol.

3. Renato Bialetti

Bialetti isn’t your typical celebrity, but he was a famous entrepreneur who brought the world the original Moka coffee maker. And that’s how his family chose to honor him. After having his ashes blessed by his hometown priest near the city of Milan, Bialetti’s ashes were placed in a Moka coffee pot and interred in the family tomb.

4. Scott Weiland

Weiland was best known as the lead singer of the rock band Stone Temple Pilots. During onstage performances, the singer would frequently perform with his trademark megaphone instead of a regular microphone. His family chose to commemorate Weiland’s legacy with a custom replica urn of his favorite megaphone.

5. Bob Casale

Casale is another famous musician on our list, playing guitar and keyboard for the band Devo. The band was known for their iconic red energy dome hats they would wear onstage for performances and from the music video for Whip It. When Casale passed away unexpectedly, there was no better way to honor his legacy than by placing his ashes in a custom-made energy dome hat.

6. Lemmy Kilmister

Lemmy and his band Motörhead were pioneers in the hard rock and heavy metal genre — living the rockstar lifestyle both onstage and off. Even Lemmy’s appearance was iconic, known for his all-black attire, cowboy hat, bullet belt, and big mutton chops.

His custom-made urn is the perfect tribute — it’s an all-black pyramid, topped off with a replica of his signature cowboy hat and an ace of spades tattoo.

7. Mark Gruenwald

Mark Gruenwald’s ashes aren’t interred in an urn per se, but we thought it deserved an honorable mention. Gruenwald worked at Marvel Comics as a writer and editor, supervising some of the company’s most iconic heroes and storylines — including Captain America and The Avengers.

Gruenwald’s whole life was comics. And when he passed, Marvel fulfilled his final wish. His ashes were mixed with the ink at a printing plant and used to reprint a limited edition of a 1985 comic that Gruenwald wrote.
