The concept of creating a bucket list has been gaining popularity. To put it simply, a bucket list is the experiences that you want to accomplish before you die. But what is the meaning behind it?
For example, Will Smith’s new Facebook Watch show called “Will Smith’s Bucket List” shows him completing items on his list, such as swimming with sharks and bungee jumping. But it’s important to remember that creating a list is about more than just doing exciting things. It’s about the meaning behind accomplishing these things.
Meaning Behind Bucket Lists
Creating a list can help you decide what’s important in life and what you want to do before you die. This way, you can prioritize what really matters and get closer to accomplishing your dreams. It also can help you decide how you want to be remembered after you’re gone and ways your loved ones can honor your memory.
How to Start Your Bucket List
You can start by brainstorming a list of things that you’ve always wanted to do. For instance, some questions that you can ask yourself to help you start are:
- How do I want to be remembered?
- What brings me joy?
- What things do I want to experience?
- How can I leave a positive, lasting impact on the world?
Your list items can be anything. Some ideas include traveling, new hobbies, food to try, new skills to learn, or anything else that you want to accomplish in your lifetime, such as training a puppy or designing your dream home.
Choose a Method
When writing your list, it can be handwritten, digital, or even on an app — whichever method works best for you! Personally, I enjoy the satisfaction of crossing something off of a hand-written list. But using technology lets you get even more creative.
For example, these are a few free bucket lists apps that you can download on iOS or Android devices:
- Soon — With this app, you can create a meaningful list with additional features like creating categories, marking destinations on a map, and inviting others to collaborate on planning a trip!
- BUCKiTDREAM — Not only can you create a list, but you also can use the Dream Planner to plan the details of a dream to turn it into a reality.
- Woovly — This app lets you easily create your list and explore inspirational categories for even more ideas.
Bucket Lists from the Frazer Team
Later this year, I’m excited to cross off going to Disney World on my bucket list! It’s somewhere that I’ve always wanted to go experience. Below are a few more items from some of our marketing team’s bucket lists!
“I had to research gray wolves for a project when I was in elementary school, and ever since then, meeting wolves has been at the very top of my bucket list. If everything goes according to plan, I should be able to finally cross this off my list after visiting an animal sanctuary this May!” — Sam Giedris, Social Media and Video Specialist
“I know this one is petty cliché, but I’ve always wanted to go skydiving. Bonus points if it’s in New Zealand.” — Lexie Graf, Content Specialist
“I’ve always wanted to learn how to hang glide. It’s easy to do if you fly with an instructor, but my goal is to become certified so I can do solo flights.” — Ashley Silbaugh, Marketing Designer
