Just after 2 a.m. the morning of June 12, 2016, 49 people were killed and 53 wounded when a gunman opened fire on a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida.

People all over the world are showing their support for the families and friends of those lost in the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.

• Old Compton Street, a section of London’s gay neighborhood, participated in a moment of silence for those lost.
• In Paris, a vigil was held at the Place Igor Stravinsky.
• In Sydney, the Town Hall flew the rainbow flag and lit up pink in honor of those lost.
• The Sky Tower and Wellington’s Michael Fowler Centre in New Zealand lit up in rainbow colors while citizens held vigils.
• Hong Kong plans a moment of silence and vigil at the Linq, a gay bar on Pottinger Street.
• A group of supporters gathered in front of the White House and sang “We Shall Overcome” and the National Anthem.
• Hundreds of other vigils have occurred or are planned all over the world and the U.S. in places like Milwaukee, New York City, and Newtown, Connecticut, the site of the Sandy Hook shooting that took the lives of 20 adults and children in 2012.
