President George H. W. Bush passed away on Friday, November 30, 2018, at age 94 — about seven months after the death of his wife of 73 years, Barbara Bush.
Through his presidency and time as a naval aviator during World War II, he fought for our country and worked to make it a better place.
Below is a look at how the country is mourning his death and honoring his memory.
National Day of Mourning
To honor George H. W. Bush, President Donald Trump declared a National Day of Mourning on December 5th. He issued an executive order to close the federal government, and the U.S. Supreme Court postponed hearings for that day. U.S. flags also are at half-staff through December 30th.
Memorial Services and Burial
Throughout the week, there were several memorial services for George H. W. Bush, including services in Texas and Washington D.C. The burial location is at the George H. W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum in College Station, Texas at Texas A&M University. His wife and their daughter Robin — who died of leukemia at age four — also are buried there.
Remembering George H. W. Bush
Many mourners took to Twitter to share tributes to the late George H. W. Bush.
The 41st President will be carried to his final rest wearing socks that pay tribute to his lifetime of service, starting as an 18 year-old naval aviator in war. That legacy is now being carried, in part, by the brave, selfless men and women aboard @CVN77_GHWB. #Remembering41 pic.twitter.com/OabtK756fO

America has lost a patriot and humble servant in George Herbert Walker Bush. While our hearts are heavy today, they are also filled with gratitude. Our thoughts are with the entire Bush family tonight – and all who were inspired by George and Barbara’s example. pic.twitter.com/g9OUPu2pjY
