The Louisville Lip. The Greatest. The People’s Champion.
Muhammad Ali was one of the most significant and celebrated sports figures of the 20th century.
But on top of his fame as a professional boxer, Ali had an impact on the world in so many other ways. A social activist, he ruffled feathers by speaking out against war, raised awareness for Parkinson’s disease — with which he was diagnosed in 1984, and much more.
One thing is for certain: the world loved Muhammad Ali, and many are still reeling from his death on June 3, 2016 at the age of 74.
Some Ways His Fans Are Remembering Him:

Other Ways to Remember Him:
- Listening to songs inspired by the legendary fighter, including Doin’ the Ali Shuffle by Alvin Cash, Rumble in the Jungle by Don Covay, Black Superman by Johnny Wakelin & the Kinshasa Band, Louisville Lip by Freakwater, I Shall Be Free No. 10 by Bob Dylan, and The Greatest by Everlast. True fans may even listen to some of the songs Ali himself sang, like Stand by Me or Faithless.
- Visiting the King Solomon Missionary Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky, where he sometimes joined his father for worship, even after converting to Islam. “Rivers, lakes, ponds, streams, oceans all have different names, but they all contain water,” he once said. “So do religions have different names, and they all contain truth, expressed in different forms and times.”
- Donating to causes that Ali cared about, such as the Muhammad Ali Center or the National Parkinson Foundation.
Different people will want to remember Ali in different ways, but one thing is for certain: He will be missed by many, and his impact will be felt for years to come.
“He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life.” — Muhammad Ali, 1942-2016.
