How rise in opioid deaths takes toll on funeral home operators

Opioid-related deaths leave families with an unusual form of grief and funeral directors say that even they’re at a loss of how to help.

One community decided to host a training on how to use naloxone or Narcan to reverse an opioid overdose, which was held at Glueckert Funeral Home in Arlington Heights, Illinois. John Glueckert Jr., the owner of Glueckert Funeral Home, now keeps two emergency overdose reversal drug kits in his funeral home in case an overdose occurs during a funeral service.
