Every day, people leave little tributes at the 9/11 memorial to honor the lives lost. Items can include notes, photos, flowers, and more unusual items like jars of sand. Each night, maintenance crews collect these items and store them in a secure area or put them on display in the museum collection. However, food and flowers and any alcohol containers are disposed of.
