Pinterest is the perfect social media platform for your funeral home’s client families to plan a personalized funeral service.

For those who are unfamiliar with Pinterest, it’s a “visual bookmarking tool that helps you discover and save creative ideas.” Check out this Pinterest video guide to learn more about what it’s all about.

So, creating a Pinterest account for your funeral home helps families find helpful resources for funeral personalization or grieving. It’s also let’s funeral professionals stay updated on the latest funeral trends and ideas.

We’ll walk you through the basics of using Pinterest for your funeral home.

Creating Pinterest Boards

First off, a pin is a visual bookmark that links back to the original site it came from. A board is where you save your related pins.

For example, let’s look at the Frazer Consultants Pinterest page for reference. Below is the home page, where you can view all of our boards and pins in one location.

Here is one of the funeral inspiration boards that we’ve created for families who have a specific idea in mind. This one is for a funeral for a fisherman, but we have many other boards with other inspiration ideas.

This is just a small snapshot of what our Pinterest page looks like. Your account name should be your funeral home’s name and include a brief description about what your funeral home offers. Also include your funeral home’s website link, location, contact information, and a profile photo, such as your logo.

When it comes to creating boards for your funeral home’s Pinterest page, here are some board suggestions to get started:

  • Caskets
  • Urns
  • Funeral Flowers
  • Grief Quotes
  • Grief Resources
  • Preplanning Resources
  • Personalization Ideas
  • Funeral Food
  • Memorial Products
  • Releasing Ceremony Ideas

Adding Pins

When adding pins to your boards, you’re able to add pins already on Pinterest or create your own to upload. Anything you pin appears on your homepage and your followers’ homepages. Pins from the accounts you follow also appear on your homefeed along with suggested and promoted pins.

For example, below are some pins in our Funeral Personalization Products board. We’ve pinned our funeral register books from floral to natured-themed to classic white or brown leather, along with other personalization products. So, if your funeral home has a “Personalization Ideas” board, you can save these pins to it along with other pins you find.

If you create a pin, such as one for an urn or casket, there are a few simple steps:

  1. Click the “+” button that appears in the bottom right corner of all your Pinterest pages. Or, click on any of your boards and select the red “+” symbol.
  2. Select whether you’re saving the photo from the web or your device.
  3. Find where your image is saved, select it, and upload it. (The link should appear in the “Choose a Pin image” text box.)
  4. Put your desired pin URL in the “Destination URL” text box. (This is the link users will be taken to if they click on your pin.) For example, if the image is on your funeral home’s website, put the link to your website as the destination URL.
  5. Write a description for your pin, whether it’s a product, quote or another funeral-related resource. This is how others will find your pin.
  6. Choose which board you want your pin to be saved on.

You also can pin to Pinterest by downloading the Pinterest Chrome extension, which lets you easily pin from the web while browsing on Google Chrome.
